Aside from being a really lovely way to spend a summer’s day, the Races are also an excellent excuse to play dress up. Our best piece of sartorial advice? Avoid going that little bit too far (you know you’re in dodgy territory when you’ve matched your cherry blossom-print hat to your shoes). Here are three ways to appropriately accessorise for the Races this summer.
Prim & Proper
Although race dressing rules have become slightly more lax of late (Ascot now permits women to wear, wait for it … A JUMPSUIT) it’s still all a rather smart affair. Most race-goers will be sporting a heel and hat and if you’re keen to blend in, your best bet is a classic court shoe. Solid black might be a little heavy for this time of year, so why not lighten things up in Carvela’s best-selling ombre ‘Alice’ or Miss KG’s ‘Arielle’ courts? Both styles come in neutral tones, ideal for pairing with colour-block or printed dresses. Complete your look with the glitter heart cross body bag – the chain strap will leave you hands free and able to hold a couple of champagne glasses (one for a friend, obviously).
Often, less really is more. Don’t be ashamed to play it safe. It is fun to experiment, but ultimately, it’s better to look understated than to spend a fortune on a feathered fascinator and embellished platforms that you’ll never wear again. Strappy sandals always look great and are a welcome flash of skin if you’re wearing something more demure. Opt for a pair in nude or gold – Miss KG’s ‘Fiona’ heels or, if you prefer something lower, Carvela’s ‘Gigi’ sandals. These will take you all the way through summer paired with mid-length dresses or even jeans on weekends. Kurt Geiger London’s leather mini ‘Kensington’ bag will add a chic finish to your race day attire.
Never one to miss a high fashion moment, we have no doubt there are a few fashionistas amongst you who’ll want to go all-out for race season. More power to you! Go for the wow factor with Miss KG’s hot pink 'Gianna' sandals or KG Kurt Geiger's 'Hearts' heels. We’d advise investing in our Saffiano tote in which to pop a pair of emergency flats, although she who steps foot in the fuschia stiletto is probably one to work her heels all night. Talk about our kind of girl…
