Meet the Designer

Join us as we catch up with the Head of Own Label Men’s at Kurt Geiger, Andy Thompson. From his style mantra to advice for anyone aspiring to work in fashion, we get to know what inspires him in both work and style.

What is your definition of style? “Style is an expression, so this lends itself to individuality. Personal style is ubiquitous and is a constant source of inspiration.”

Who or what inspires you? “British culture is amazing, it continuously inspires and fascinates me with British style and music resonating all over the world. Living in London is vibrant - inspiration is everywhere if you know where and how to look for it. A close second to this would be the impeccable and timeless style of 1940’s and 1950’s jazz musicians. A notable reference would be Blue Note album covers.”

Why did you get into men’s fashion and what do you love about it? “I’ve always had a keen interest in fashion and my footwear career evolved out of this. I definitely was a sneaker freak in my teen years; well actually I would like to mention I've never really grown out of buying sneakers, my taste has just become broader."

"My love of the job is a dichotomy of design & creative range building. Getting the equilibrium right which drive sales and maximises profit through best sellers excites me.”

Do you have a style mantra? “Keep it simple. I think it’s fundamental for men to have key items, whether it be clothing or shoes. Keeping well-groomed with a sharp haircut and being well stocked on staple items will mean you can’t go wrong. Oh yes, and don't be afraid of a touch of colour!”

What advice would you give to someone wanting to follow in your footsteps? “Always believe in yourself and the things you do!”
